TASK ONE: History of Music Videos
LEARNING COMMENT:
From doing this task I've learnt a lot about how music videos have developed over the years and how audiences have watched music videos. Over the years music videos have evolved from simple videos of the artist singing to performance based videos with a narrative. Many editing techniques are also involved in making a successful music video. Cross cutting is seen in a huge range of music videos throughout the years as it allows the audience to see a story progress but also shows the artist involved and the song being performed. Other techniques such as slow motion shots are used in order to fit the beat of the song but also engage the audience as it makes the video more interesting to watch if there is different paced shots. Various angled shots are also used in successful music videos as not only does it make the video interesting, it also tells a story and allows the audience to engage with the narrative and see different roles in the performance. Using a variety of different shots also keeps the viewer engaged for the duration of the song, this is noticeable in more recent music videos where editing and narratives are getting more daring and pushing the boundaries as that type of video attracts more viewers, therefore selling the music more.
