Inside Left Panel Editing - Updated

Due to the feedback I received which was the writing was not clear enough to read on top of the image, I decided to change the inside left panel.

I started with the same image of Grace. I like this image as it is bright and colourful so represents the pop artist she is, yet it is still grungey and edgy as the setting is a graffiti wall and she is wearing alternative clothing, the beanie hat.

I then proceeded to do the glitch effect as used in my other panels, this makes the panels all link and the digipak looks continuous and in synergy with each the panels. Instead of making the glitches in rectangles, I chose to do squares of various sizes on the right side of the image, so it gave the effect that the image is breaking up and floating away.

Digipak Front Cover - Updated

After editing my digipak poster to its final design, I decided that my digipak cover needed to have more similarities to the poster in order for them to link and be a part of the same brand.

To increase the similarity I added the same red lines using the eyedropper took and rectangle tool and added them underneath each line of text.

I think this improves my front cover aswell as making it more similar to my digipak poster,  it gives it more colour and also matches with the image used as Grace has red eyeshadow and red flowers on the clothing she is wearing.

Digipak Poster - Feedback

After talking to an audience about my digipak poster, I was given some advice on how to improve it:
  • unstretch the writing
  • capital G
  • variety of font
  • legal information

I began by improving the text by narrowing the height so it looked more natural and I changed the capital letter at the start of the artists name to match my digipak front cover.

I then started moving the text so it was central, I prefer it like this as it stands out more and looks more advertising.
I added red lines above and underneath each text also, I matched the red colour as the same as the flowers on the artists coat. I did this using the eyedropper tool and the rectangle tool.

I added extra legal information at the bottom of the poster too, this again makes it look more legitimate.

The final change I made according to the feedback was to have a variety of fonts. I changed the fonts at the bottom of the poster so they were bold and stood out. But the font still had the same style as the top fonts.

Digipak Post Feedback - Disc Panel

According to my audience feedback, the disc panel of the digipak looked a bit too busy and didn't have a main focus point. To change this, I thought that making one image of the panel black and white would make it more subtle and make the focal point on just one picture instead of the colours clashing on both.

This is the panel with the disc black and white and the background image in colour.

This is the panel with the background black and white and the disc in colour.

This is my digipak so far, I decided on the coloured disc with the black and white background as the main feature of that panel is the disc so it should be the component to stand out.

Digipak Post Feedback - Back Cover

From the feedback I got from both of my teachers I have made the following improvements to the back cover of my digipak.

I needed to add in the small legal information and a production company logo. Also a typical tracklist has at least 8 songs, so I added a few more to make it more realistic.

Digipak - Updated

Inside Right Panel Editing

Inside Left Panel Editing

I started with this image for the inside left panel.

I decided that having the lyrics for the song in the music video inside the digipak was a good feature which is often used in artists digipaks. I started by creating a layer on top of the image in photoshop. I then typed out the lyrics to the song and put the lyrics layer on top of the background image.

I experimented with another background image swell however it didn't work as well as the background was more busy so the lyrics weren't as readable.

Digipak - Updated

Extra Panel Editing

I began with this picture.

I first started editing by cropping it to the digital panel size and increasing the vibrance and saturation to make the buildings stand out more.

I thought that this picture alone was a bit boring to be a panel on its own so I added some effects which are on the front and back panels, this creates synergy throughout the digipak and makes it look like they all link. I started by doing the glitch effect. I duplicated the image and named them glitch.

I then used the same process as in the front cover to make the glitch effect.

After that I added the 3d effect like in the back cover.
This is the finished extra panel.

Ext. Back Cover Editing - Photoshop

To make the back cover match the front covers theme of glitches, I decided to add a subtle 3D effect to the background image.

I began with the existing back cover then duplicated the background image twice.

I then right clicked on the new layer and selected 'Blending options' . From there I deselected the ticked G box.

I repeated this on the 2nd new layer but instead of deselecting the G box, I deselected the R.

I then proceeded to click the left arrow on my keyboard to shift the layer to the left. This created the 3d effect as the red and green colours showed through.

Ext. Front Cover Editing - Photoshop Effects

To make my front cover more interesting I decided to try out some effects. I found a tutorial online on how to make a glitch effect on photoshop and thought it looked cool and fitted the style of the pictures as they are quite fresh and modern looking.

I began with the front cover I had already made. I duplicated the background picture twice. Then merged the new layers together.

Using the Rectangle Marquee Tool (M) I made thin horizontal rectangles in different areas of the image. I then used the move tool to shift them all left. This created the glitch effect.

After this, I decided that the artists name was a very important part of a front cover, I added the artists name underneath the top glitches.

Overall, I think this front cover is much more interesting than the previous one and it includes the correct information that is needed on the front of a digital.

Back Cover Editing

I chose this image for the back cover as I wanted it to tie in with the front cover and I wanted a lot of blank space in order to have a tracklist.

As I want to include a tracklist on the back cover I wanted no distractions or obstructions for the text. In order to have this I decided to clone out the 'No Parking' sign on the garage door. To do this I used the clone stamp. I am happy with the outcome as it looks clean and almost unedited.

I then cropped the image so the door was central.

Next, I added the tracklist using the same font as on the front cover. This ensures synergy throughout the digipak. I experimented using various font sized and decided that the middle one was best in the end.

I then added a barcode to make the digipak look authentic as barcodes are a typical convention in digipaks. I googled barcode psd then dragged it into the back cover document and arranged it where i thought it looked best.

Final back cover:

Front Cover Editing

I began with this image of Grace. I chose this image for the front cover as it shows the artist well and I like the angle. The background isn't too busy so it also has room for the necessary text e.g. album name.

I began by inserting the photo into photoshop and cropping it to the correct size, which is 5.492 x 4.941

I edited the quality of the image first by sharpening it and changing the colour balance.

Once the image was how I liked it, I began adding text. I used a font downloaded from dafont.com. I like this font because it is simplistic and clear.

I added the text onto the picture where it stood out most. I experimented with different texts but decided that the album name was most important so should be the boldest.

This is the front cover so far, I plan to get audience feedback in order to improve it.
